This is something computer vendors discovered 60+ years ago; IBM would crank up the performance of various IBM/360 models; and Honeywell had a switch (requiring a key to turn) that would make the core memory on the Honeywell 645 run twice as fast if you paid more money.
Since the ID.x cars are just computers on wheels - it's pretty obvious this is coming widely. I'll predict that within a year or two, someone will figure out how to disable your ID.x car until you pay a ransom in bitcoin....
