If you distribute to the world at large then the world at large is your end client, and as such are required to distribute the source.

If you were Only Distributing to Buy-n-Large then you would only be required to distribute the source to Buy-n-Large.

If Buy-n-Large Distributed to the world at large then Buy-n-Large would be required to distribute the source.

Just because you give someone the source doesn't make it open source.

I had an old professor he used to say: If you cut off someones head they die, but just because they're dead doesn't mean you cut off their head.

like wise

If something is open source it means you distribute the source code to the end user, just because you distribute source code to the end user doesn't mean it's open source.

(please note, not all OSL require distribution to the end user)

Comment booting? (Score 4, Interesting) 160

Article mentions Android is based on Debian, so basically what has happened is apt-get was installed (and all required software) which then gives access to the entire debain ARM library.

Is this correct?

It's sad the number of responses saying this is a boot screen... maybe if you don't actually look at it, and just go: 'oh pretty text!'

A Sony Camera Running Linux 209

jonr writes "At the recently concluded Consumer Electronics Show, Sony presented the new camera from its Cyber-shot product line. The DSC-G3 comes with a Zeiss lens with 4x zoom, a large 3.5" touch display, and 4GB of internal memory. Most interesting is the camera's software that includes, among other things, face and scene recognition, based on Busybox and Kernel 2.6.11 for the Access Linux Platform. The camera also has built-in Wi-Fi."

EEStor Issued a Patent For Its Supercapacitor 603

An anonymous reader sends us to GM-volt.com, an electric vehicle enthusiast blog, for the news that last week EEStor was granted a US patent for their electric-energy storage unit, of which no one outside the company (no one who is talking, anyway) has seen so much as a working prototype. We've discussed the company on a number of occasions. The patent (PDF) is a highly information-rich document that offers remarkable insight into the device. EEStor notes "the present invention provides a unique lightweight electric-energy storage unit that has the capability to store ultrahigh amounts of energy." "The core ingredient is an aluminum coated barium titanate powder immersed in a polyethylene terephthalate plastic matrix. The EESU is composed of 31,353 of these components arranged in parallel. It is said to have a total capacitance of 30.693 F and can hold 52.220 kWh of energy. The device is said to have a weight of 281.56 pound including the box and all hardware. Unlike lithium-ion cells, the technology is said not to degrade with cycling and thus has a functionally unlimited lifetime. It is mentioned the device cannot explode when being charge or impacted and is thus safe for vehicles."

Comment Answer using the tools at hand (Score 1) 457

Answer the question using math.

F = ma
an immovable object has infinite mass, m = âz, a = F/âz => a = 0 regardless of F
an irresistible force is F = âz, , a = âz/m => a = âz regardless of m

But F = âz and m = âz, a = âz/âz => a is indeterminate, ie we have no tools to answer this question.
in case things aren't displayed properly, âz is the infinity symbol

Even further though the question only really applies to our world, and thus cannot apply to God, simply because if God does exist, is not part of our world.

Once you seriously start to think about that question you do realize how stupid it is, I mean, immovable to whom? Us? to be immovable to use it would have to have an infinite mass, and unless it had infinite density it would take up infinite space. If it didn't take up infinite space, it would have infinite density, it would be infinitely small, and IIRC would have infinite gravitational pull. Infinite gravitational pull which would cause the entire universe to collapse on this infinitely small item.

Still the question can be expanded to "if X is omnipotent, can X do something they can't do." Problem is we can only come up with situations that we comprehend, that are bound to the world we know. If a being was truly omnipotent, it would be beyond our comprehension. so all in all, the question is a stupid one.

Firefox Add-On To Track Your Location Via Wi-Fi 181

Barence writes "Mozilla Labs has unveiled a new Add-on that allows Firefox to pinpoint your location based on Wi-Fi signals. The feature, called Geode, is a prototype for the location-tracking technology that will be built into the forthcoming Firefox 3.1. Geode is designed to work with websites that rely on knowing your location, such as mapping and geotagging services. The prospect of Firefox having the ability to track your location raises obvious privacy fears. Mozilla insists users will remain in complete control. 'With Geode, when a website requests your location a notification bar will ask how much information you want to give that site: your exact location, your neighbourhood, your city, or nothing at all,' the Mozilla Labs blog claims."

Journal Journal: Steam completely locking out Linux and Linux Users

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=15

If you note, there are a bunch of locked threads over at the Suggestions/Ideas section at the steampowered forums.
Those locked threads are suggestions for a steam linux client.
Steam has decided they will not allow any talk of linux on their forums, under thread closure and account ban.

I do not understand what they are so scared of to let their community talk about Linux as a platform for steam.
