I've been averaging about $25 an hour driving for Uber and Lyft in the Portland area. Some days more, some days less. Sure, there's gas, wear and tear on the car, payroll tax, and other costs, but even after that, I probably net about $18 an hour or so, if not more. There's no other job I can think of that anyone can do and get started almost immediately, has a completely flexible schedule, is almost completely unsupervised, and pays this much. Not to mention, easy and fun. You force minimum wage onto this, let alone unionize drivers, and it will turn into the taxis all over again.

You didn't answer the important question: "What law are the police circumventing here?" It is a legitimate concern that police surveillance is getting out of hand, and we're losing our privacy seemingly on a daily basis, but it's not correct to say that the police are not following the law. At least, in this case.

A better analogy would be if they called for prohibition while they smoked up. They can quit anytime they want to, and leave others alone, but are calling for instead for everyone to be forced to quit against their will.
