Ok, I like that concept. But that would require that all governments give up that power, if just one country gives us that power then it could be exploited by others. Also, I suspect that private industry would love the idea of taking a monopoly if it was as easy as market saturation for a few years. Keeping in mind that the reason we bind together as a government of common people is to stop the tyrants that create circumstances like these. The fact that our government does this to ourselves is a mixture of tyrants playing the system, propaganda and lack of critical thinking.

Yes that would be a noble idea, what we see in history is that trade and commerce brings wealth and prosperity to the people. As our representatives, government should help and enable trade as much as possible. But like most things it can be weaponized. When another country dumps large amounts of rice or food stocks on your market and puts your farmers out of business it creates an opportunity for dependence that can be exploited. Look at what Russia is doing with gas right now. So the question is that how do you ask all players in the market to operate fairly and without exploitation without resorting to an overarching powerful body to enforce the rules?
