It's not just that people wouldn't be able to buy used games for the Go, but that we won't be able to shop around. Oftentimes, you can save $5 to $20 or mpre on a brand new game if you look around. However, being locked into buying fron the PSN means thats you'll be buying at full retail price until Sony deems it appropriate to drop the price. Persona is $39.99 on the PSN and in retail stores IIRC. Should it cost that much for a digital copy, even though the RL copy comes with a soundtrack and booklet? I mean, I don't even like paying full retail price for my games or movies, so I'd hate to give up the ability to hunt for lower prices.

Ah, but the problem with this instance is that consumers aren't being warned that installing this new DLC will add, uh, ads to their game. I guess people know now and most are unwilling to upgrade.

Yeah, the Red Bull ads in a previous Wipeout game made sense, but State Farm Insurance? Are gamers a big demographic for them?

I don't have the DLC so I can't confirm anything, but posters on Kotaku have reported that the ads appear even if you aren't connected online. And I don't believe the description of the DLC warns people about this.
Bar Codes Keep Surgical Objects Outside Patients 269
Reservoir Hill writes "Every year about 1,500 people in the US have surgical objects accidentally left inside them after surgery, according to medical studies. To prevent this potentially deadly problem, Loyola University Medical Center is utilizing a new technology that is helping its surgical teams keep track of all sponges used during a surgical procedure. Each sponge has a unique bar code affixed to it that is scanned by a high-tech device to obtain a count. Before a procedure begins, the identification number of the patient and the badge of the surgical team member maintaining the count are scanned into the counter. When a sponge is removed from a patient, it is scanned back into the system. A surgical procedure cannot end until all sponges are accounted for."

Well, as far as graphical adventure series goes...I believe the DS is bringing the genre back. The recent incarnations of Phoenix Wright have proven to be very popular, with a new DS game on the way. Hotel Dusk, a film noir style detective story is also coming out soon. With the success that the DS is having, we might even see ports of some great Lucas Arts titles. Maybe.
