You seem to be conflating 3D and VR. Have you actually tried VR?

I spent yesterday at a Halloween Show performing a VR segment. I spent the weekend a few weeks back demoing various arts pieces. I've probably done nearly a couple of hundred VR demos in total. No technology in my lifetime (I'm late 40s) has elicited such a strong positive reaction across a broad demographic. People still find VR magical and wondrous. I don't care about sales numbers or hype cycles - I think VR is so obviously compelling that it will find it's place given time. It might not be mass market and it might not be for mainstream gaming. But it's not going away.

I don't know where you got the impression that this was Apple-bashing. They failed to make the connection with other platforms but in my view the Apple bashing was all in your mind.

I would argue that support for indexed images!=lossy compression. You are passing an already altered image to the compressor. It's the color reduction that introduces the loss, not the file format's compression.

Why do we need it? PNG is lossless and unsuitable for photographic compression. JPEG is lossy and therefore capable of much better compression ratios on photos or similar images but is based on rather dated techniques.

If you devote more than half a braincell to it then I am afraid it doesn't. I'm sorry you feel so jaded today but may I suggest taking up caffeine again?
