The stated goal of the EU is not what you are describing. Tech sovereignty is not about purity, it is about independence. That does not mean they will cut off all ties with American tech, it just means that for certain core technologies they do not want to be fully dependent on American firms handling their data.

Oh, I see, you are describing the world as you want it to be, not as it is. You have decoupled from reality. Intellectually, that makes you indistinguishable from an idiot or an insane person.

It might work. I might not. But it is a possible solution to a problem that we have no idea how to fix, and there aren't many other solutions being floated about.

If you think the problem starts and ends with LLMs, then you're fooling yourself. This is about automation, and LLMs are just a part of that. What do we do when we have fully autonomous trucks? Do you know how many people depend on truck driving for a decent income? We're already working on having robots unload those trucks, manage warehouses, etc.

If something can be automated for less than the cost of a human doing it, that thing will be automated. We've known this for a long time, but the panic only began recently because LLMs threatened white collar jobs.

You need to learn Latin, Greek, French, and German at a minimum if you want to be able to reliably deduce spelling from sounds once you're past the elementary level.

Reliable spelling is pretty irrelevant, especially in the age of spellcheck. Phonics is about READING. Understanding Latin, Greek, French, and German will certainly help with advanced etymology, but you don't really have to know the history of the bi- prefix to understand it means "2." Learning multiple languages is always a great advantage. . .but you want to teach reading in all those languages with phonics.

Whatever criticisms you have of phonics, I challenge you to cite an alternative method of teaching reading that is equivalent, let alone better. Empirically, no other method has been able to effectively teach reading.
