I registered altslash.org for a five year term -- I'd gladly work with a group and have them take over the domain. I'm not looking to sell the domain, or make money off of it. I just think it'd be very cool to be a part of the project. I've used slashdot for years -- although I've been a lurker around here since I lost access to my account after graduating college. I'm assuming my registered email address is my old .edu account. Anyway.
I think altslash.org is the best alternative, for two reasons:
1. It avoids trademark issues. The "dot" and "org" aren't a part of the trademark. "altslash," not "altslashdot."
2. It reads the exact same as now, but as the alternative. "altslash" + "dot" + "org" It rolls nicely off the tongue.
Maybe three:
3. On a Mac, alt + slash = the division symbol. Kind of fitting, right?
