3-D Printer Creates Buildings From Dust and Glue 139

An anonymous reader writes "D-Shape, an innovative new 3-D printer, builds solid structures like sculptures, furniture, even buildings from the ground up. The device relies on sand and magnesium glue to actually build structures layer by layer from solid stone. The designer, Enrico Dini, is even talking with various organizations about making the printer compatible with moon dust, paving the way for an instant moonbase!"

Australian AvP Ban Reversed 71

Earlier this month, we discussed news that Sega's new Aliens vs. Predator video game had been refused classification in Australia, effectively banning it. After a scathing response from the developer saying they wouldn't censor the game, and later news that the classification scheme may be updated to include an R18+ rating, it now seems that the Classification Board has seen fit to give the game a green light after all. Sega's Darren Macbeth told Kotaku, "We are particularly proud that the game will be released in its original entirety, with no content altered or removed whatsoever. This is a big win for Australian gamers. We applaud the Classification Review Board on making a decision that clearly considers the context of the game, and is in line with the modern expectations of reasonable Australians."

Comment Replicate at home (Score 1) 167

I'll take this opportunity to advertise the SDLMame interface at http://organicrobot.com/mame/ in case anyone wants to try to replicate this with Ms Pacman or any other MAME game they've got.

You have to bring your own visual parsing tools though (I recommend starting with OpenCV), since all you get is a bitmap, not the ghosts position, number of dots, state of ghosts, etc that these researchers had access to by using a different implementation of Ms Pacman.

(btw, having seen a few very smart people try getting a computer to play Pacman, the results obtained are very impressive. As per usual, 4/5ths of the objections/questions/disses posted here could be answered by reading the paper linked to at the bottom of the article. JAIR is open and free, you do not need to pay or subscribe to read it)
