Submission + - Australia's Largest ISP Ditches Linux Mirror (whirlpool.net.au)

An anonymous reader writes: Australia's largest ISP, BigPond, has decided to ditch its local mirrors of Linux and other open source operating systems, as well as various other open source software and Creative Commons media. BigPond posted a terse update on the service's website, citing reasons of low popularity and the existence of better services like download.com and Tucows. BigPond customers are not impressed by the move, given that the ISP is infamous in Australia for its high prices and relatively low monthly quotas of bandwidth (many users are on 10gb or 25gb per month plans) and all downloads from this service did not count towards their monthly limits.

Submission + - Intel porting Android to x86 for netbooks and slat (liliputing.com)

timothy writes: According to Liliputing, Intel is bringing the sweet eye candy of Android to x86, which — if all goes well — means it will land on (more) netbooks and tablets soon. I'm more excited about ARM-based tablets, for their current advantage in battery life, but the more the merrier, when it comes to breaking up the tight circle of OSes available for any given arbitrary class of computing devices. Given all the OS swings that the OLPC project has gone through, maybe they should be thinking of Android, too.

VLC for Mac death is "greatly exaggerated" / What is Lunettes?

VLC for Mac is being maintained. However the old Cocoa graphical interface of VLC, is not being maintained at this time.

The reason is that we are in the process of rewriting a new interface for VLC. Its codename is Lunettes.

Why a rewrite? This is something really easy to see. VLC for Mac is just not "Mac" enough.

Taken from here.

That site is fake, apparently.

Yesterday we were all freaking out over the announcement of Project Needlemouse, a codenamed game that promised to be a brand new 2D Sonic the Hedgehog due for release in 2010. Don't worry, the game itself and the trailer we posted is genuine. However, a Project Needlemouse site featuring Green Hill-esque artwork has been confirmed as false.

I know!!!!! I mean, can you BELIEVE that Miley Stewart and Hannah Montana are the same person????? I mean, seriously she looks like soooooooooooo different with that wig on!!!!! I was like "no way" at first when I first like watched it but now I'm kinda used to the idea or something. My only hope is that this like version of Linux or something is as existential as the Hannah Montana show. I wonder if there are two sides to this linux, like OH MY GOD it wears a wig at night so your using Hannah Montana linux and by day your using Miley Stewart Linux. That would be like sooooooooooooo cool!!!!!!!

P.S. If your reading this Miley, I love you XoXoXoooXOXOXoOOXoXOXo

and a couple people will slurp up the Jobs flavored Kool-Aid

Where can I buy this Jobs flavoured kool-aid? I'm so glad all these big tech companies are investing in the flavoured beverage market. Why, I'm sitting here enjoying a cold glass of Google Gulp as I type this. They really should make an MS-branded kool-aid beverage though, as long as its not Ballmer flavoured which would probably taste like armpit sweat.
