Make it hurt for multibillion dollar companies? How? If you give them very large fines, the stock will drop, as all these "investors" will walk away. The execs will come up with a plan to up the stock. Guess what that will be ? Sack some people (give it a nice round number like 10000, always good from a marketing point), and that won't be execs. That will be people in manufacturing, quality, customer support etc so not really good for consumers either... And what about where AMD would be if they had all this R&D that was "denied" them. I think people don't really understand AMD's history. AMD (with the exception of the Athlon) has always produced productsm that at best where "as good". They have hardly ever made a profit, which in the real world would mean they would no longer exist. Have you forgotten that Intel sponsored them at the start so they could be used as a second source for military contracts? Who has the most interest in having a competitor around, that has something like at least 5% of market share? AMD in a cut throught capitalist market is an anomoly and would/should have died a long time ago...
