VIII had a storyline?
1. Kill sorceress because, um, she's bad and you should kill her.
2. Find out it's not really the sorceress' fault and she's being controlled.
3. Kill evil other sorceress who wants to compress time, because "time kompression" makes everyone else die...?
4. In the meantime, watch Squall and Rinoa as the game desperately tries to have something interesting going on.
5. Find out you all grew up in the same orphanage and that your GF's make you forget things. (ummm....what?)
6. The moon shoots a ray of monsters at the earth.
7. ???
8. Square-Enix makes profit!!!!
As far as I could tell, a bunch of literature students each took a part of the game and wrote the plot for it, then they all just mashed the pieces together as best they could.
