You know, if you think about it, it is one of the best monsters created for D&D for that very reason. Given that the dungeons that it is found in are usualy the domain of wizards and powerful mages, it stands to think that they would have come up with a non-mechanical way to keep the place tidy. Especially with all the deathtraps scattered around. Maybe not good for the non-magical campaign, but then again, what really is?
