Amen brother. Back in 1995 my standalone databasing application was 10x faster than the web based crap we use today. Even the best web based applications are excruciatingly slow compared to a the same desktop app. I agree that there's some app's well suited for web, but large databases, file repositories, etc are hindered by slow connections, rendering, etc.
