A combination of de-duplication and calculating and storing only the changes between similar byte streams is apparently the key. Imagine storing a terabyte of data on a single disk, and it all runs on Linux." Obviously nothing concrete or released yet so take with the requisite grain of salt.
Microsoft Says Recovery From Malware Becoming Impossible 631
An anonymous reader wrote to mention an eWeek Story about Microsoft's assertion that PCs may no longer be able to recover from the most aggressive Malware. From the article: "[Danseglio] cited a recent instance where an unnamed branch of the U.S. government struggled with malware infestations on more than 2,000 client machines. 'In that case, it was so severe that trying to recover was meaningless. They did not have an automated process to wipe and rebuild the systems, so it became a burden. They had to design a process real fast,'."

...and the politicians in Washington want something to take home to the constituents. Some of these folks are looking for *anything* they can take positive credit for, especially given the controversies of multiple wars, inflated budgets, and Plamegate. Wouldn't you be more inclined to vote for a politican who "helps keep our children safe from the dangers of smut and pornography" or (insert other positive spin here)?

The recent comment over nuclear power was uninformed and ignorant, it should have been reworded as more of a Homer Simpson-esque joke instead of including any one region of the country, especially my own.
