How Steve Jobs Got Green Overnight 194

Francois writes "At Apple's last special event, Steve Jobs insisted on how environment friendly Apple's new iPod packagings are supposed to be. I don't think he's ever gone that route before. 'We've got some new packagings for the new Nano as well. And it's 52% less volume. This turns out to be an environmentally great thing. Because it dramatically reduces the amount of fossil fuels we have to spend to move these things around the planet.' Not only is it obvious they shrank the packaging to reduce the cost of shipping around the planet and sell lower than the Zune, but furthermore: there's a reason why he insisted that much, and it's not so very nice."

Google OneBox Hooks up With Enterprise Apps 77

TopShelf writes "Google's OneBox for Enterprise has now been integrated to multiple top-notch business applications, including Oracle, SAS, Cognos, and Salesforce.com, according to this morning's press release on Yahoo! News. PHB's everywhere will soon be able to Google their way to the information they need - what will that mean for corporate report developers and business intelligence staff?"

New 25x Data Compression? 438

modapi writes "StorageMojo is reporting that a company at Storage Networking World in San Diego has made a startling claim of 25x data compression for digital data storage. A combination of de-duplication and calculating and storing only the changes between similar byte streams is apparently the key. Imagine storing a terabyte of data on a single disk, and it all runs on Linux." Obviously nothing concrete or released yet so take with the requisite grain of salt.

Microsoft Says Recovery From Malware Becoming Impossible 631

An anonymous reader wrote to mention an eWeek Story about Microsoft's assertion that PCs may no longer be able to recover from the most aggressive Malware. From the article: "[Danseglio] cited a recent instance where an unnamed branch of the U.S. government struggled with malware infestations on more than 2,000 client machines. 'In that case, it was so severe that trying to recover was meaningless. They did not have an automated process to wipe and rebuild the systems, so it became a burden. They had to design a process real fast,'."

Some of these folks are looking for *anything* they can take positive credit for, especially given the controversies of multiple wars, inflated budgets, and Plamegate. Wouldn't you be more inclined to vote for a politican who "helps keep our children safe from the dangers of smut and pornography" or (insert other positive spin here)?

Journal Journal: Stupidity

The recent comment over nuclear power was uninformed and ignorant, it should have been reworded as more of a Homer Simpson-esque joke instead of including any one region of the country, especially my own.
