Comment Back in 1994 (Score 1) 136

Back in 1994 I was working at the Computer center at my University doing some CAD Investigations to setup training for students. A fellow there was downloading Slackware to setup some web servers and I got curious about, then setup a double booting system with windows and slackware to test it. Since then I always have a linux system somewhere around for playing and learning.

I have no prof and I will not take the time to do it. Some are honest but most Sales & Marketing guys are just to "loose" on what is honest, maybe we could agree on this. I'm not "just" trying to get money from my employer. Absolutely not! I could be making more money selling tacos or hamburgers and I am not doing that. Hope this assertion makes clear the difference to you! By the way: what do you do for a living? do you like it or just do it for the money?

Honestly, I try to make the maximum amount of money I can make in a honest way, providing a value per the money to whomever hire my efforts. I could be making a lot more money if I faked or lied, but that is against my principles. I am not saying I am perfect, just that I try to be honest, for true. I do believe we could be a better society if we stop faking and lying each other. You lie to your employer to make more money from them?

The Frontier of the MMO Genre 92

Eurogamer is running a feature about what they call "frontier" MMOs, games that are on the fringe of a market flooded with attempts to replicate the success of Everquest and World of Warcraft. Many publishers already have more MMO projects than they know what to do with, and often leave the more unusual and unique games out in the cold, preferring to stick with familiar IP or a tried-and-true approach. "Like any gold-rush, the MMO market also attracts a different kind of adventurer: the fearless, inexperienced, determined and solitary dreamer, making a go of it on nothing but their own resources and pluck. The online distribution and direct revenue streams — be they subscriptions or micro-transactions — make it theoretically possible to make a mint in MMOs without any help from the gaming establishment at all." They take a brief look at several such games currently in development, including Earthrise, Gatheryn, and Global Agenda.

UK Cinemas Get 3D Projection Rollout 151

CNETNate writes "The largest chain of cinemas in Britain, Odeon, has become the first chain to fully roll out 3D projection technology in its theaters. These new projectors will deliver 3D images at a resolution of 2K (2,048x1,080 pixels). Many major cities in the UK will now be able to project the new 3D movies coming out of Hollywood, without it being referred to as a novelty offered in one or two locations."

3 Cups of Coffee Increases Hallucinations 628

PearsSoap writes "The Telegraph and other sources are pointing out a study on 200 students which has found that a high caffeine intake can cause visual and auditory hallucinations, and can make people think that others are 'out to get them.' The abstract (and full version if you have access) is available. 'The volunteers were questioned about their caffeine intake from products including coffee, tea, energy drinks, chocolate bars and caffeine tablets.'"

Guitarist Hopes To Play Again With The Help of Bionic Hand 72

Dorian Cox, the 27-year-old guitarist of the indie band The Long Blondes, thought his guitar playing days were over after he suffered a stroke. He now has a glimmer of hope thanks to some neurological physiotherapy which includes a cutting-edge piece of medical technology. The SaeboFlex helps patients by supporting their wrists and helping them grasp and release objects. "It's a fantastic service, it's helping tremendously and I think it can work wonders for me and others — it's almost like a gym for my hand. I know things might never be the same again and nobody can give me a definite answer about whether I'll play guitar again but I'm getting back on track with their help," Mr. Cox said. This thing looks really cool, and I'm sure many people will benefit from it, though I can't help but wonder if they make a model that lets you shoot your fist at an enemy.

Kind of had it with Slashdot. They banned my entire IP range again and again for over a week now, because someone on my ISP keeps screwing around. Ban expires, I get a few hours of access and after that it's gone again. Repeatedly reported the ban on my IP and asked for a solution, but nothing.

So, fuck Slashdot.

Now, let's give this Kuroshin thing a try...
