Comment "most" aggravating (Score 1) 778

Sorry to be pedantic, but this is probably one of those situtations where ten years ago, everybody (in the US) would've put "most aggravating phraselet" as the subject. Then somebody came along and explained that we Americans use "most" incorrectly a lot of the time, as in "that is one of the most aggravating phraselets I have ever heard." In that case, it should be "more", because most should only be used to refer to one thing; it can't be "one of the most...." So, suddenly everybody starts using "more" all the time. Sometimes, "most" is still right, though, as in "that is THE most aggravating phraselet I have ever heard," or in the case of the topic, simply "most aggravating phraselet."

And we wonder why the brits make fun of the way we speak. /me crawls back into his hole
