If we want to look at total units for any given random date (Is Nov 11th the official starting date for christmas shopping?) then Nintendo is WAY ahead of Sony. Why? The NES, Super NES, N64, and gamecube? All combined (since 1990) total FAR more console units then the PS2. You can sway numbers any way you want.
As for availability, we could find Xbox games in Mass, but couldn't find Xboxes. In Maine, they had the opposite problem. They had the Xbox unit, but no games, so nobody was buying. You'll buy both. And I own a PS2, love it. I own an Xbox, love it. I don't yet have a GC, but eventually, I will. Xbox was my big purchase this month. It'll be a few months before I invest in another console.
