I knew the time would come when these feminist millennial snowflakes would start coding and inserting their pathetic world view into tech.
Thankfully just a few more years until retirement. smh

Every OS has this problem about deprecated features. Microsoft has the same issue that every other dev shop has...it costs a lot to maintain software forever.
I blame the companies. If a solution is too expensive to maintain over the life of the product, the business plan is flawed.
This is a perfect opportunity to nudge companies to OSS btw. You'll STILL have this problem, but you can hire ninjas to code around it instead of adding more potential zombies to the interwebz.
I haven't logged into Slashdot in a LONG time...but I just wanted to say I couldn't agree more.
We have this customer in aerospace. ITAR, FEDRamp compliant, all the bells and whistles. You probably know this story. Anyways, we were ordered to build and maintain 2003 systems for some legacy POS app, while at the same time being told that "security is of utmost importance, we must pass all audits."
I'm no longer there, but the next place probably won't be better. *shrug*
I remember that story. My impression is that the guy was really good at vetting a developer and managing the communication / transfer of code. Maybe he also got lucky?
I work with a lot of folks in India. One guy is a rockstar, a couple are decent and the rest are dead weight. Very much like here in America. The problem is the time difference and scaling. How many rockstar devs are over there, how can one person find them to capitalize on it and how much time, effort and talent does it take to make it seem invisible like this guy did?
