Journal after5's Journal: In Paris! 2

So I've made it to the end. Almost.

Many things have happened, I have been to Rome (I want to go back, although hopefully it will be cooler. Someone decided to schedule a heat wave when we were visiting. Which really made it difficult to haul 3 days worth of clothing, laptop, camera, and other such necessities through the last day of the city before boarding our overnight train to Paris. THe train was fun, got all of about 7 hours of sleep, but it was a neat experience.

Did I mention how cool rome was? Our last night there a couple of us went to a little cafe in a piazza and just had coffee and such for a couple hours.

And then we had to leave...for France. Now, many of you know that I'm not too keen about France as a whole. So paris has just been this massive layover prior to moving into the UK for six weeks.

We've been to the louvre, arc d'triumph, and the eiffel tower is for later tonight so we can see the city of lights at it's prime. There is also a huge festival going on tonight so we'll be in the middle of that as well. Good thing our hotel is in the boonies so that we'll be able to sleep in peace before shipping out for Versaille tomorrow.

Oh, Dena, I'm sorry but I haven't been completely behaved as far as computers. The keyboards here in france are by far the worst in the world. They are completely misarranged and that had to be fixed. Now, the software installed blocks you from changing keyboard settings, but there are always ways around that. I'm currently typing on a French keyboard that the computer thinks is American. I love being a nerd. And not having to hunt-peck is a great lifesaver.

For those of you looking for vacation spots, for example any wonderful aunties or uncles out there. I highly recommend Italy. Venice cannot be missed. It's just wonderful and will probably be gone in 100 years anyway. So better get to it now. Rome is incredible if you like to see how a modern city has grown up with a past that reaches back over 2000 years. Ruins are everywhere and the museums are quite nice.

On a whole though I have ranked the cities as thus:

** Budapest, Hungary (not too turisty, easy to get around without public transit, even though it's cheap and effective, i just don't like riding trains when I could be walking)
Buda (the hilly side) is just beautiful, Pest is too, and the city park in the middle...yeah, Budapest just rocks. And CHEAP! It has many massage and day spas, i'll have to try those next time. (1 hour massage for 7 dollars)

Rome - explained above

Padova/Venice - ditto, just amazing, Padova is an hour by train from Venice and is where we stayed. Great little city.

Florence - nice churches

Munich - not too much to do, but the castle was amazing.

Vienna - city of music, pretty spectacular palaces too.

Prague - too overrun with tourists, and quite dirty. I wasn't impressed at all.

Moscow - Nice to say I've been to russia, but the people need to cheer up.

Paris - i'm too tired to really enjoy it, but if you like walking through art museums, the louvre can't be beat.

Anyway, that's all i have to say for the moment, be back later when I get to oxford!

  • Okay, does the term plausible deniability mean anything to you?! I don't want to know the details of your hacking experiences. Just tell me you misbehaved around a computer and leave it at that. But other than that I don't want to know. I am glad that you are still having a good time. I hope those damn French didn't treat you too bad. Stop eating McDonald's!! It will ruin your digestive system. Mine thanks me every day for not polluting it like that. It's been twelve years and counting. As for Taco Bell cravings, are you not a Mexican?! Mother and Nana will be highly disappointed. Me tell Aunties not to feed you anymore.
  • So, let me get this straight, you gave the french keyboard an identity crisis? You're such a trouble maker...

Well, even if you aren't enjoying France as much as you'd like at least you won't be there for too much longer. Hopefully when you get to the UK and things settle down you will have a chance to catch up on your rest (travelling non-stop can definitely be tiring).
