Journal after5's Journal: Neuschwanstein 3

Today we made the two hour drive to Castle Neuschwanstein located here in Bavaria. If your aren't familiar with the castle, it's the one disney adapted for Disney Land. Anyway, we went there... ...and got completely drenched.

Yes, it happened, it rained cats and dogs while on the trail up to the castle. Well, I should rephrase myself, it started raining prior to me starting on the trail up to the castle, but I wasn't about to pay five euros for the honour of taking a bus up to the semi-top. (it wouldn't have dropped me off at the doorstep)

So I walked, got wet, and basically had to walk around the interior of the castle completely drenched.

I shouldn't say completely, I had on my father's wonderful gortex jacket. But that was also covering my bookbag so that it couldn't shut, so my front got a little damp. My umbrella I loaned to a couple of guys who desperately needed it. I had it for the trip back down however. Of course, I could have waited 20 minutes for a bus to arrive to take me back down the mountain, but that cost 1 eur, and I could walk down in 20 minutes.

So I walked, and got slightly damp, but I did thing ahead and wore the fastest drying clothes I own, so it was all good (God bless travelsmith.com)

Neuschwanstein was incredible. It is still unfinished since crazy king ludwig II died while it was still under construction, but the surrounding land was incredible. I got as many pictures as I could considering it was pouring down rain. My camera definitely was exposed to a different climate than what it is used to. The fog in the mountain range did add a certain character to the place though.

And the drive there...beautiful country-side.

My eyes are burning from smoke. We went to a beer garden tonight after visiting neuschwanstein, I did try a beer. It was okay I suppose. Not something I'd want to drink more than a 1/2 liter of. I was determined to finish it, I'm all about getting my money's worth. Especially when it cost me (okay, my parent's) three dollars.

I don't understand how people on this trip can go and drink five LITERS of that stuff though. I can barely do five liters of water. Let alone liquid bread. Guess that's why they are part of the A-team and I'm a lowly "D".

On a side note, Wes and I used my Y-splitter on my CD player and partied to some Reel Big Fish on the way back home. I don't think the bus appreciated our occasional singing, but that's not our fault. We were just getting into the music.

That's all I have to say about that.

  • I've always wanted to visit that castle, I can't wait to see all of the pictures you've taken. I'm sure everything looks just beautiful. I would have been too stubborn to take the expensive bus as well. Good thing you didn't get too drenched on your trek to the top, we don't want you catching anything else while you are away. Talk to you later...
  • I was going to write this in an email, but figured hey, this might brighten everyone's day. Okay a couple of weekends ago, the parental units, sibling and I went to church. Before church we had to introduce our selves to those sitting around us. Well when Lisa introduced herself to the man sitting in front of her and I she said, "Hi. I'm Gary. No, wait, he's Gary. I'm Lisa." I must say, like father, like daughter. Considering our father introduced Lisa as me to the father. Well I found Father Joe after mass and told him what Lisa did and he got a good chuckle out of it. I hope you do too. She is going to kill me for posting this. Oh well!
