I agree about the fat (pretty much the whole of book 2), but I still loved the books and thought it a wonderful series. The characters were rich and very well developed, the story filled with questions and great twists (that all get answered), and there were certain sections of pure brilliance. But yeah, it could be cut down to half the length and still do quite well, I think. As for the game, I guess it's nice, but I've been praying (to FSM) for them to come out with a movie since I first read it. I guess that won't be happening any time soon.

mattsucks writes to tell us that according to AdAge, retail behemoth WalMart is trying desperately to target the MySpace demographic with a new, and highly sanitized, site designed to appeal to teens. From the article: "It's a quasi-social-networking site for teens designed to allow them to 'express their individuality,' yet it screens all content, tells parents their kids have joined and forbids users to e-mail one another. Oh, and it calls users 'hubsters' -- a twist on hipsters that proves just how painfully uncool it is to try to be cool."

And terrible news for Microsoft. jalefkowit writes "Tech pundit John Dvorak has long been known for his inflammatory opinions. Many have suspected that these opinions are just a way to drive up traffic to his column. Now, we have it straight from the horse's mouth: Dave Winer has Dvorak on video describing his methodology for trolling the Mac community to pump up his stats." I have to admit I'm also guilty of posting the occasional inflammatory story, but I find it's usually best to suffix the title with a question mark, and let our ever-knowledgeable readers hash out the issue and decide for themselves.
