Comment UBI necessary but insufficient (Score 0) 370

No surprise that having more income leads to better outcomes. As someone who had been homeless for four years between 2001 and 2005, I can attest to that. However, as necessary as UBI is, I don't think it is in itself sufficient. People need in addition, IMHO, support networks. Something like a free software life planner that could function like a GPS, but for one's entire life. Since going homeless, I have put a lot of effort into building this virtual secondary social safety network. Because it costs next to nothing per capita, it should appease the right, and because it offers a social safety network, it should appease the left. Due to being free software, it possesses the multiplicative power of free software. It there enjoys infinite replication, an anti-rivalrous nature, and synergy. So for instance, people can crowd-source the application logic. This project has been featured on Slashdot in the past, back in 2013, but a lot of really great technical progress has taken place since then. I'm working with Claude 3.5 Sonnet now to distill all my writings on the project into a project pitch to maybe secure some funding from philanthropists, but here is a quick write-up lieu of all that: https://frdcsa.org/~andrewdo/W...

Comment Behavior Trees (Score 1) 251

I cannot control others, so I am *trying* to control myself. To maximize the probability of my survival (and those I care most about) so that I can outlast the virus and hopefully do some good in the world via my Free Life Planner and FRDCSA projects: https://freelifeplanner.org/ and https://frdcsa.org/ Early in the pandemic, I wrote a draft paper outlining using Behavior Trees to help people control their own behavior, but I haven't seen anything spring from it: https://frdcsa.org/~andrewdo/w... I need the Behavior Trees to control myself, but I haven't succeeded in writing the software to run them. I would welcome collaboration, but do not expect it, because I cannot control others.
