I have thought for a long time that very few people calling themselves anarchists have really thought it through.

Correct me if I am wrong (no really, do) but surely in a anarchy a militia of 20 men is "free" to come into your home, rape your daughter and take your son into forced labour and your only recourse would be to form a bigger militia.

It is all very nice to talk about social responsibility and ethical behaviour but look around the world at places where the rule of law have broken down and there is no effective government. Is that what is happening? I think not.

Even if 99% of people behave responsibly without the need for a government the remaining 1% can still make an anarchy a pretty hellish place to live.

It seems to come back to the idea that freedom is all about being able to do what the hell you like. Sounds great, doesn't work
