From current Objectivity employee: I suggest that the reason finding OODBMS talent has never been an issue with our clients is that the need for DBAs is infinitesimal in comparison to RDBMS. That being said, we appreciate that the known issues of resources(for example, how could you possibly implement a database without a DBA) is more easy to accept and present to executives than the unknown of working with an OODBMS. That is one of the reasons that we are now offering our Java/NT product for download with technical support for a 90 day period. This is the full product and comes with a tutorial and sample code to build a single database. Sample code for building a truly distributed database (database running on multiple servers that present a single logical view) should be available by June. Go to http://www.objectivity.com/DevCentral/Download/ . Almost all of the posts here are absolutely crucial information for OODBMS companies are ever to achieve any substantive market share. The logic of the case is not enough when people are hanging their hopes and plans on the success of their idea and company. The arrogance of niche market players is common in software. You would never see such arrogance from a consumer goods company. The perceptions of all of the postings reveal that all purchases, however technical, are still emotional decisions. The sooner OODBMS companies understand this fact, the sooner we will see a double digit market.
