I would say you have to be pretty competent at, if not capable of being the lead marketer, sales droid and manager ('accountant' can be outsourced) to have any chance of not being exploited and sidelined in the end. Otherwise, the people you hired to talk to the world (including your customers) for you will eventually find ways to outmanouver, outnumber or outvote you. The autistic genius who never emerges from his lab would have to be so paranoid to avoid this happening, that they would basically be impossible to work with at all, and the only time you see people like that getting the recognition or the wealth is when it literally is a solo effort. Social competence is a fundamental trait required for personal success, no matter how large your contribution to any project is.
