Comment Re:It should be the ISPs that pay (Score 1) 249

Why does the average slashdot user replying to these topics seem to show so much hate towards the ISPs for offering you 20mbps but not intending you to use it all? Have you all thought of the other possibility - the ISPs become honest and ignores their competition overnight, as you want them to, and we all get completely unlimited 512kbps connections for our £20 per month. Newsflash: your monthly broadband fee does not cover the ISPs cost if you use it 24/7. Why is it particularly evil for ISPs, when competing with each other, to have presumed residential connections won't be used to stream multimedia files to the rest of the internet 24/7?

Yes the ISPs should be more clear and include fair use clauses or even limits in their contracts, but then what happens when they do - we all complain that they are cutting our service back. You may want 20mbit for $20 per month, but if that isn't possible, *something* has to give.

Sony Rejects PS3 Price Cuts 187

Despite hopeful comments by analysts, Sony has gone on the record (again) saying that it has no plans to cut the PS3's pricetag any time soon. Next Generation reports: "'PS3 prices and shipment plans for the future should be determined by market trends and competition. Sony currently doesn't have any specific plan to cut the PlayStation 3's price.' Analysts believe a price cut is inevitable, as the company struggles to catch Microsoft's early lead with Xbox 360, and the $250 Wii continues to sell as many as can be produced. However, Sony's plan has generally been to hold tight and hope that demand for Blu-ray drives will increase, by the end of this year." Relatedly, the company has outlined releases for the second quarter of this year on the PS2, PS3, and PSP systems.

According to Jobs, 'These are devices that need to work, and you can't do that if you load any software on them.' In a similar vein, Jobs said in a MSNBC article that, 'Cingular doesn't want to see their West Coast network go down because some application messed up.'"
