Another thing: Aren't all the current Linux distributions based on the Linux kernel? Did any of the non-slimeball Linux companies write that kernel themselves?
Do you see any distro's that are just repackages of the Kernel, sold for money? I don't think so. Linux is more than just the kernel, distributions (for the most part) save the user the hassle of building their GNU/Linux system from the ground up, therefore saving much time, effort and experience. I run a distro I made myself, and it took a very long time to download all the right programs, compile them, make sure they all work, make my own init scripts etc etc etc and im 100% sure that not everyone wants to do this, but everyone wants something that works without too much hassle right? If anything, you are just taking the opposite side of the argument becuase you think you should, or you think its cool to do so.
