Ummm, this does actually happen in real life, although it's more common to have the vendor send one of their less assertive employees to the servers and users, than it is for the customer to send the servers and users to the vendor. I have seen both happen within my various employers, both as vendor and customer.
Per-diem on-site support is usually available for around $2000 per day, give or take a factor of 10 depending on how poor the vendor feels on any given day.
You might not get an actual, live developer, but you might get someone who is on an email basis with an actual, live developer.
