Journal Zirnike's Journal: Floored. 7

Went to my parent's place this weekend. Helped my dad and uncle install a hardwood-like floor in my parent's bedroom (mom has allergies, carpets therefore are bad) The stuff is called Pergo (yeah, sounds like a sauce, not a floor), and is fairly easy to install, and supposedly quite damage resistant. I will admit, it didn't get scratched much, if at all, while we were using tools on it. Gotta be careful, though, as if you hammer it too hard on the edge (you will need hammer it a bit to lock it in place), it will shatter the edge. Only happened in one place, though, and that wasn't exactly the best place to work on.

Also got a pair of pants hemmed (seems like a fair trade. :) as I have an interview this week in Lowell. It would be nice if it turned out well... It's a small company, though, and the guy in charge doesn't think highly of people who have worked for larger companies. Seems odd...

Regardless, it's been fun being in a low state of panic for several days. I HATE interviews. They make me nervous - I can end up babbling (you'd never have guessed, right?)

I need to marry a rich woman. That way I can build things without needing to worry about building things people give me to create. I want to build a car, running on a single-speed optimized gas motor, a battery pack and set of electric motors. I should be able to isolate the engine, and make a nearly dead quiet fuel efficient vehicle. It'll look better than anything on the market... I don't understand who they are hiring for styling people for these modern cars. Even the new Rams look AWFUL. The only decent new cars I've seen is the new Caddy roadster, and the Nissan Titan.

I was also thinking of making a race car, of sorts. Take an exhaust fan and seal the undercarriage (like a hovercraft), then when taking a sharp turn, you can exhaust the air very strongly and increase traction. Old concept, but I've never seen it implemented. Of course, my primary focus is weapons design... Not necessarily lethal, one of my more interesting concepts is a air powered bolo launcher (the tricky part is getting the cable to unfurl instead of trailing behind like a tail). Net launchers don't really have the range, as far as I can see, to be really useful as general purpose devices... unless you encapsulate the net and set the release as an explosive charge, but that has it's own difficulties (I doubt solenoids would be able to pull it off, and you'd need to connect it to a power like from the launcher, or add a serious weight for batteries/caps, increasing the danger... Plus a proximity sensor of some sort...)

If any rich women out there need a husband, well, go ahead and send me a message. :)

  • Okay, well...I'm not a rich woman yet, but I have plans, you see...

Oh yeah, and interviews do indeed suck. I have three this week. One of them is supposedly eight hours long. I guess now would be a good time to figure out how to keep the wrinkles out of my shirt for more than 45 minutes.

But, yes...I see riches in my future. Limited time offer. Men who can't cook need not apply.
    • Oh, I can cook all right. My specialties are Jerk Chicken or Jerk Steak, lasanga, ziti, grilled ham and cheese (2 cheeses, ham, etc... good. :). But I can cook just about anything. I haven't done too much baking, mostly because my sister is really good at it... But I think I could handle it.

      My weak point is vegitables...

Do you have an application form available? :)

Hey, good luck on your interviews. I hope that 8 hour one doesn't suck as bad as it sounds like it would... (I just can't say 'goes w

    • I can make everything from stir-fry to kibbeh to stuffed tenderloin of pork. I make pies, cakes and even meringue (ever had Baked Alaska? I've made Frozen Florida.) I've got some chicken marinating in the fridge as I write this.

Pledge to finance my energy R&D empire and I'll be yours forever. Oh, and cook for you too. ;-)

    • Try that "stretch cotton" stuff -- it's cotton with just a little bit of spandex in there. The business shirts look really great, they're *fantastically* comfortable, and they'll stay nice-looking all day long. I got mine way back when at Ann Taylor -- it'll cost some money, but one or two really good shirts like this are worth it.

  • There was a Can-Am style car some years ago which had three engines on board; one driving the rear wheels, and two snowmobile motors turning fans which pulled air out from beneath and exhausted via nozzles in the rear face. From the brief news article I saw, it could do 60 MPH just on the thrust from the vacuum fans. The vacuum system gave it incredible downforce at all speeds.

So far as I know it was never ruled to be legal for the class, and the whole idea died when Can-Am racing was halted not too long a

Computer programmers do it byte by byte.
