Except for the SyFy Genre Awards from Airlock Alpha, which have been given out since 1999. I follow what you're saying, brand defense is neigh impossible when you have a common usage or single word brand, but they're actually adopting an existing term. It'll be fucked if they go after the little guys already using the moniker (see: Retroactive Patent Suit).
