Comment Re:The IRS just announced (Score 1) 224

This is largely because the IRS has its hands cuffed behind it's back in court cases chasing the 1%. After corporate America started CEETA and hired PWC to lobby congress to ban the IRS from blocking appeals, summoning witnesses or using outside law firms. So the Taxpayer First Act passed in 06-2019, the IRS has been chasing the lower 99% ever since. It is estimated that corporate America and the 1% are holding $10 Trillion outside the IRS view or control and now there is no way to claw any of it back.

Most do get refunds too. In fact I do wonder how any income tax gets paid at all. Joe Average gets paid about $60,000 (so $9,967 of tax ) and claims deductions of on average $4,500 along with the $1,080 offset Joe will on average only pay $7,262 in tax. An effective tax rate of 12.1%

Confuses me no end how watching shows that are predominantly full of white people is somehow not diverse. I watch a variety of shows in their original languages ( some with subtitles because I'm not a polyglot yet!) like cop shows from Finland, Sweden, France, Spain and Italy. Some drama shows form Germany, Poland, Croatia and Denmark. Shows specifically made by/with indigenous peoples like Polynesians, Sámi and Roma. Science fiction from South Korea, Thailand, Norway and Japan.

Maybe I missed something, Maybe I am just not American.

Perhaps a fine from the EPA for involuntary chemical release? Article says they found the leak during unrelated construction works so seems accidental. Court enforceable order to repopulate the creek and install monitoring equipment perhaps. Have to wonder if they audit or monitor any of their chemical processes if you cant tell your pumping several thousand gallons more of sulfuric acid into your process today than yesterday or last year. Also unclear what level of site monitoring or waste water management you have in place when your storm water pond can be seen overflowing with several thousand gallons a day even on days that are not raining! If they managed to open a singularity to the Spider-Verse in an ocean and millions of gallons of sea water poured out every day, would they even notice?

Same problem was found here in many schools, seems that brass plumbing fittings are nickel coated but the coating can wear off quickly leaving brass to leach lead into the water. The rate of lead contamination is poorly understood and depends on many factors like water hardness, aggressiveness and temperature ect. You could replace them but all the new ones are also made in the PRC. The "solution" was to flush the school water systems before recommencement of each year/term. Thus avoiding elevated lead levels due to long stagnated exposure to lead containing metals in the pipework or fittings. https://www.abc.net.au/news/20...

I hope nuclear power holds part of the solution.

I am however still waiting for someone to explain to me how the math on this works. Simple Wikipedia search tells me 10.2% of current world electricity generation comes form nuclear power and that as of 2015 5.7 million tons of material is available. At the rate of consumption in 2014, these global reserves are sufficient for 135 years of supply. Along with the expected 20% increase in electricity consumption from the electrification of transport over the next 30 years does it even make sense? The math on the face of it does not add up, approximately 10 times consumption of today puts current reserves at 13.5 years supply.

Appears we have less than 30 years of economically accessible nuclear material world wide (if 100% global electricity generation becomes nuclear)?
