Journal Zarf's Journal: The excercise of learning 8
My son starts school today and I'm thinking about the process of learning. I personally feel that learning by itself is a positive and rewarding thing. It keeps the mind young and flexible. I've met people, however, who don't care to continue learning much after school. That attitude puzzles me.
For some people continuing to learn is a burden. The task of schooling and learning was troublesome and they are glad it is finished. That attitude means that they are likely to pick a career that doesn't require constant new learning.
Trouble is... I can't think of a career where you could reasonably survive for an entire career without having to learn something. Can you?

I just can't see anyone doing that job as they approach their retirement years. He's already had back surgery twice from injuries sustained on the job. How can he expect to climb trees and wield a chainsaw when he's 60? He has no other skills or education beyond high school and no desire to learn anything. My wife's co
