Zarf's Journal: Java or Perl

Had to pick which language to start a new server side project in, only languages on the table are Java and Perl... which do you pick? Go!

well what are you doing?

Too bad you have to choose and compromise with Python or Ruby

Yeah, I think ellem has it about right. Perl is a great tool if you don't mind the write-only code. They're both Turing-complete, so nothing is forbidden to you, it's just a question of what is easier for you.
