Comment Just change your region on iTunes (Score 1) 81

Very easy, you can switch your region on iTunes to get the Canadian app store, etc. All you need is a valid address with a postal code, you can skip adding a credit card because TikTok is free. I've done this to get UK apps on my iPhone that aren't available in the Canadian region. You don't lose your purchases on your other region either, so yes, this is quite comical...

Find an APK and sideload it? I can't imagine it's that hard

You can change the region of your iTunes to Canada, as long as you can find a valid address with a good postal code. Then you can download the application, no need to even add a credit card. After, you can switch your region back to the US. So yeah, I assume it's stupid people with too much money bidding on that...

A) You don't use personal computers to do corp work. If a computer is required your employer provides it. B) how were they monitoring their "private" usage? "Connecting their PCs to more powerful PCs at the office" sounds like they're RDPing in or something. If you're doing something outside of the RDP session it should not be monitorable. If you're watching youtube on company time inside your RDP session, you deserve all that's coming to you cause you're a fucking idiot.

My thoughts exactly... It's one thing for computer illiterate people to misunderstand how remote desktop works, but it boggles my mind that this would be posted on Slashdot... Yes definitely there is immoral practices done by some companies to spy on their employees, but this isn't one of them. Surprised Slashdot would run a story like this, you'd think the people who post it would at least understand the basics of computers and remote desktop technology...

Comment This is why a lot of people stopped using instagra (Score 1) 36

Since the pandemic began, more and more friends and acquaintances have stopped posting on instagram. I'm sure some of it has to do with people doing less activities, but it's mostly how they changed the way you see photos.

The recommended barrages you with boring stuff that no one cares about. It's quite bad, and pretty hilarious that they see it as a good thing. It might drive engagement up short term, but long term, people will move away and find a better photo sharing app...

Comment Mercury? (Score 1) 286

I've always believed that it's just mercury/other heavy metal poisoning. I'd think people that work around computers/electronics/technology in general probably are exposed to mercury far more often, even if that and other elements have stopped being used widely in manufacturing.

The worrying thing to me is the expansion of technological waste, this'll expose the greater population to more mercury and other elements, making the health risks higher.

But yeah I'm sure genetics plays a large role in it either way... These "disorders" etc could just be varying degrees of the Human psychology, I wasn't too old when I realized people on a whole are very similiar in that sense, and I think if two people are at one end of the spectrum then with genetics it's likely that those traits will be made more apparent.
