Another clue is the pak files in the id1 folder used to tell you whether you had the shareware version or the full version. If you only had pak0.pak, you had the shareware version. If you had pak0.pak and pak1.pak, then you had the registered version. With the re-release, everything has been combined into a single pak0.pak file.

No, this is only for kids who have DRM-encumbered versions or suckers who paid for it twice. Those of us with the original box (the ones who arguably funded iD) are not welcome to participate.

Does anyone know what actual protocols and technology it works on? It would seem some form of Bluetooth (or my gut tells me less likely:NFC) for the initial handshake, but beyond that, I'm not sure. With the Zigbee alliance involved, I'm assuming it's 802.15.4, but I wouldn't be surprised if it just sticks to 802.11.

I agree. I only buy 5-year warranty drives. Once they've outlived their usefulness to me, I can still re-sell them to someone else with the assurance that the drives have a couple of years left on the manufacturer's warranty.
