Rosen Believes RIAA is Wrong about P2P Lawsuits 287

Newer Guy writes "Former RIAA head Hilary Rosen now believes that the RIAA is wrong by pursuing their lawsuits of individuals for using P2P programs. In a blog post, she writes that she believes the lawsuits have 'outlived their usefulness' and states that the content providers really need to come up with their own download systems. She also is down on DRM, calling Apple's DRM 'a pain.'"

I have enjoyed lots of games from indie devs lately, and i also bought them all.
http://introversion.co.uk/ have some interesting games, their latest is called Darwinia and is published through Steam, i think they are about to become big, available in both Linux, Mac and Windows. They are also playing with a new game, visit their page!
http://s2games.com/ - these guys have made Savage, an rpg-fps genre with a cool community and great servers with a lot of teamplay and fun. For Linux and Windows. Savage 2 is underway and i have pre-subscribed to get access to the beta-test.

It seems that systems like Steams can help indie devs a lot to get out to people, it certainly helped Introversion a lot.

I recently discovered Xdmx, something that seems capable of splitting my desktop across multiple machines. Along with it, I was also thinking in lines of some kind of cluster system, like OpenMosix. My goal at the moment is to be able to run Quake 3 on three computers (two of which are laptops = limited expansion possibilites), giving me wider peripheral vision, or at least to be able to move windows around between the display. Unfortunately, I'm quite certain that at least OpenMosix would require more speed than 100Mbit for Quake 3, so I started pondering the same question: What cheap and fast network solutions exist?

So far, the best idea I can come up with is a mesh of those USB-USB link cables. If USB 2.0 is in the ~400Mbit range, it should be faster than 100Mbit, right? But then again, speed and latency aren't the same.. Comments are welcome :)

Google in Trouble for Suggesting Illegal Software 370

JehCt writes "Google is being sued over the 'suggest' feature built into its latest toolbar. InfoWorld reports: 'ServersCheck, a small company that makes network monitoring software,' is complaining that, 'If ServersCheck is entered, Google generates suggested search terms such as serverscheck crack, serverscheck pro crack and serverscheck keygen which lead to pirated software.' In an apparent public relations blunder, Google claimed to have no way of filtering suggestions. However, Google can and does filter because the toolbar won't provide suggestions for keywords like 'porn'."
