You play the game all by your lonesome, but the game can connect online and automatically download new creatures, buildings, or entire civilizations from other players and put them into your world. They are *not* controlled by the other players, they are run automatically by the game AI. Any griefing that takes place is done to you by the computer, not some jackass 14-year-old.
