It would be amazing if the MTA would invest in this kind of technology and provide it to NYC. Tokyo is on it's way to an almost 100% green rail-system. The piezoelectric system combined with the Maglev trains that were installed in 2003 is making Tokyo's railways emissions free and almost electricity free. The only electricity now being used is going towards powering the magnetic rails. Looks great! ~Troll~

Nuclear power is relatively mastered. Due to the wonderful world of politics, if you don't already have a nuclear reactor built there is very little chance of you ever being able to harness it. Hell, even Iran knows that nuclear power is the best bet. The only problem there is the byproducts of nuclear power are nuclear weapons and Israel really doesn't want that to happen considering they'd probably be the target. I'll believe that when we have Nuclear fusion in another 40 years.

Jeez. It seems like every week there is a new alternative energy source that scientists are trying to make. We should develop what we know for sure is going to work. A few examples would be solar, wind and hydro-electric. Once we have these energy sources mastered then we can go onto something new. Like nuclear or hydrogen power.

Annual Video Game Report Card Is Positive, For Once 75

Every year, the National Institute on Media and the Family releases a report card which grades various aspects of the video game industry on how well they keep "inappropriate" games out of the hands of children. This year's report was largely positive, which is surprising given the history of strong criticism by the Institute. They acknowledged that gaming is becoming a much bigger part of family life than it was in the past, and they're making an effort to shift the focus onto the parents to keep their kids' gaming habits under control. The full report is available here (PDF), and Game Daily has an interview with Entertainment Software Alliance CEO Michael Gallagher which touches on some of the same issues.

Farmer Builds Robot Army 106

46-year-old Wu Yulu has only a basic school education but has managed to build himself 26 robots from scrap materials over the past 30 years. At first his creations were simple and could barely shuffle along by themselves. The robots got more complex as time passed, and eventually he built ones capable of climbing walls, serving water, lighting cigarettes, playing musical instruments and writing calligraphy. "When I was 11, one day I was sitting on the doorstep, and while watching villagers passing by I suddenly came up with the idea of building a machine that walks like a man," he told the Beijing Times.

Open source is on it's way to the stars and beyond. More and more people are realizing how great open source applications are programs are. Firefox and Ubuntu are two great examples. Open source is like a democracy by the people, for the people. Since it's created by us it inncorperates what we want/need on a daily basis which is why it's so successful. On a cooperate level it's not going to be successful for many small/medium buisnesses because in theory it's not supposed to be a money maker. Long live and (prosper?) open source!

This looks like a very promising App. As a student, we are assigned group assignments which often involve a partner and an essay. It's always stressful to try and edit our assignments together because it involves emailing it every time we make a correction. This would completely eliminate that frustration, can't wait until this comes out!

I can think of a few reasons why Macs are becoming more popular (especially in this field). Like the first commenter said, has this guy used Vista? 1. More and more programs are coming Linux. Like today we have Flash. 2. Stable OS/Well built systems. 3. More people are realizing that you don't need windows to read windows files. Just format your junk to FAT instead of NTFS. This is just brushing the surface...
