My first thought as an ex TA is that this student is failing courses attached to a major they regret. Probably pushed into that major and pressured by their parents.

The whole point of polling is that you're using statistical mathematics to extrapolate results from a sample. Since I'm sure you know that, I'm wondering if you're expecting to see a broader spread of opinion and, not finding it, assuming self-selection. You're correct, but should understand the selecting happened years ago for each scientist.

Why? It takes just as much effort to respond either way... a few clicks. The demographic that reads Nature will be full of opinions on the subject. They've been talking about it for thirty years.

Iâ(TM)m playing around with a few models that come with licensing agreements similar to the terms that govern media use, and I canâ(TM)t imagine not applying the same logic.

Being pedantic here, but the FCC licenses broadcast networks like NBC-Affiliates, ABC-Affiliates, etc. Most of the major networks don't broadcast over the air to local TVs - they broadcast via satellite to their affiliate network stations who then require an FCC license to re-broadcast that signal locally. Some major networks do own local TV stations that have to be licensed, but the "networks" themselves do not.
