"Inside Out" was brilliant, and I consider it possibly Pixar's best. I just do not see any other studio getting that concept past the treatment phase:
"Emotional complexity as the primary focus of the story? Hmmm. How do we market that? Better yet, how do we even visualize that and wrap it in a narrative?" Much the same can be said for "Up," which tackles such issues as old age, infertility, acceptance of the loss of a dream, and death. You know, the standard topics that the bean counters know will put butts in seats for a kids film.
