Journal Wolfton's Journal: Breaking into an IT Career 1

It day two of the new year. I am thirty, married, raising four kids, and I want a change of pace. I want to get into IT.

If there is a job out there for me, it is one that pays well, allows me to test all kinds of software for free, and then I can write about it for others to benefit.

So, how do I get into this career field?

Once I do, how do I make enough money to support my family? Is there a way to get the education and certifications I need and supprt my family at the same time?

  • My usual recommendations for someone in your situation is to try and locate a job that can utilize your existing skills in combination with a more technical role. You don't mention what your previous experience is, but there should be some way to parlay it into a new career. For example, if you have legal experience, perhaps you could find a company that provides technical services to legal firms -- or, if you are an engineer, the IT department of a firm that does engineering.
