Neutrinos explain how certain particles can decay and not violate conservation of momentum. In fact, they were first postulated as an explanation for why momentum conservation was apparently violated in certain reactions, and only later were they experimentally confirmed.

If we didn't theorize about neutrinos, we'd be set back to pre-Newtonian times.
