Lawsuits like this are often the only recourse we have when dealing with corporate oligarchs, so please don't cripple my ability to be made whole when they do harm to me. Stalking is terrifying and life altering for the victim. If the facts are as presented, this ins't a frivolous lawsuit. The harm is tangible. Toyota should be held accountable.

Yeah, I loved Office Space. Still, I never bought into the ending though. Cleaning up a burn site, being exposed to lung destroying dust, chemicals, sun. Working with a crew of uneducated bigot misognynists. I came into IT from construction and have never looked back. It's actually easier to be a craftsman in the tech jobs I've had than it ever was in the "get it done now goddammit" atmosphere of most construction sites. Super high end construction is a bit different, some craftsmanship is expected, but you're still breathing sawdust and busting knuckles all day.

I agree it does most of those things you mention quite well for me...(I love the email, gps, and facebook app) with the exception of phone calls...I get some seriously buggy behaviour with the phone calls...incoming calls that ring but don't display the answer button; calls that upon ending, seem to completely lock the phone for 5 minutes with a black screen, can't even restart the damn thing; calls that never ring. The phone is the buggiest piece of crap I've used...I'm about one call away from scrapping it. As much as I need to see my FB status updates I really need the thing to send and receive phone calls reliably. Anyone else have this or solve it via jailbroking? (sic)

I tried this. They used an automated voice caller to tell me the number that I can call to purchase a warranty. So I called the stupid number, thinking I could find out who they are or give them a piece of my mind. But the number just kept ringing and ringing. No one ever answered. So whatever scam they are running must be poorly managed, which I suppose is a minor consolation.

I really like the touch screen, I can type faster on it than any of the numerous windows mobile or blackberry phone I've used. The drawback to the keyboard for me is that it takes an extra touch to get non-alpha characters. Of course, the blackberry and wm phones do also. I'm a sysadmin, the sole weakness I've found is that new text alert and new mail alert sounds aren't very configurable. If I need to wake up at 2am to save a server the existing sounds don't quite do it. I don't know if WM or BB have better configurability for those sounds.

Yes! Vilayanur Ramachandran's experiments and treatment of phantom limb pain support the idea that the brain takes a "best guess" about what should exist in our world. When sensory data don't match what the brain is accustomed to perceiving, it just makes things up. If you haven't watched his lecture on ted.com you really oughta.

If you're talking about the home user, then they will change as soon as they buy new hardware. They will take what they are given and they will like it.

Not in my experience. Off the top of my head I know 4 home users that bought a new computer in the last few months--all 4 got a Mac for the first time. All are amazed that they "just work" for everything they do, which is digital photos, email, web surf, docs, and spreadsheets. Another consumer I know bought an XP netbook for her 7th grade daughter, and would have bought a Mac notebook if the price was lower. All had options, all are very satisfied with their purchase.

I've always wondered why people would go to a bar and watch tv. It seems a cry for help somehow. "I'd rather be alone in the company of other people". TV is generally sad, addictive, malproductive, and pathetic compared to the alternative activities one might engage in. Go for a walk, talk to your neighbor, attend a lecture, read a book, write a letter, make sweet love to your blow up doll. All better alternatives. By the way, did anyone see Sons of Anarchy this week? AWESOME!

Someone else's airport? Hahaha! Most airports are paid for and owned by local governments. They are mine. Oh sure, there are a few airports that have been handed off by congress to enrich their friends, and in those cases I think it is my duty to annoy them by turning off the Fox News shills. It's be one thing if airport televisions played C-SPAN, but they are invariably set to propoganda channels like CNN or FOX.
