How To Find Bad Programmers 359

AmberShah writes "The job post is your potential programmer's first impression of your company, so make it count with these offputting features. There are plenty of articles about recruiting great developers, but what if you are only interested in the crappy ones?" I think much of the industry is already following these guidelines.

Geomagnetic Storm In Progress 110

shogun writes "The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration reports a strong geomagnetic storm is in progress. The shuttle, ISS and GPS systems may be affected." They think this storm was caused by a weak solar flare on April 3rd. As you may expect, this has caused some unusually impressive northern lights since it started. What you may not expect is a photograph from Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi aboard the International Space Station showing the aurora from orbit. He apparently tweets a lot of pictures from space. He and his crewmates have taken over 100,000 pictures since coming aboard the ISS.

Food Activist's Life Becomes The Life of Brian 165

krou writes "After food activist and author Raj Patel appeared on The Colbert Report to promote his latest book, things seemed to be going well, until he began to get inundated with emails asking if he was 'the world teacher.' In events ripped straight from The Life of Brian, it would seem that Raj Patel's life story ticks all the boxes necessary to fulfill prophecies made by Benjamin Creme, founder of religious sect Share International. After the volume of emails and inquiries got worse, Patel eventually wrote a message on his website stating categorically that he was not the Messiah. Sure enough, 'his denial merely fanned the flames for some believers. In a twist ripped straight from the script of the comedy classic, they said that this disavowal, too, had been prophesied.'"

Comment Atari 600XL (Score 1) 1485

I got my first computer 20 years ago. It was a Atari 600XL, which i recieved for my birthday. I remember typing listing from magazines on it, but since i've had no tape or disk drive i've let the computer run all night so i wouldn't lose the program :-) After working all summer i had enough money to buy a tape drive.

The computer also had 2 cartridges with games (ala Atari 2600, one was Star Raiders 2), which i couldn't get to work. I've exchanged the first 600XL thinking it was broken. A few months later i discovered by accident that you had to first insert the cartridge before turning on the machine (*duh*) :-)

After 4 years i traded it in for a C64, a decision i still regret to this day. Some years later i bought a 130XE just for the sentimental value :-)

Great times....
