Exactly! Not EVERY computer has to allow EVERY possible choice. (Oh, the horror.) Attention, RMS: They didn't say "All computers are now only allowed to use this software." They didn't even say "This is the only computer that you are now allowed to use." They said "Hey, we made a nifty product; it does X and it does Y. Anyone want it?" Are we now going to bitch that I'm not being given the choice to run a word processor on the computer in my Toyota? Because seriously, that's what the FSF sounds like right now.

I don't suppose they considered instead testing which phones properly respond to clicking on links in Web browsers?

I haven't seen it, either... the previews made it look like someone took the plots of Fern Gully and Dances with Wolves, mixed them together, added some blue paint and ~space travel~ and dumped it out on a movie screen. If I want a story about space travel and learning not to belittle other cultures, Piers Anthony wrote the Cluster series thirty years ago. It's about due for a re-read.

Comment But what if you don't even know the command? (Score 1) 769

The man pages had (and still have) the same problem that a dictionary does: you have to know the command with which you need help before you can look up how to use it. Example from a month or so ago: I was having an issue with a binary telling me "no such file or directory" when I tried to run it. It wasn't the binary itself that was the problem (obviously, IT existed!) but rather it turned out to be a missing dynamically linked library. I didn't know that the "ldd" command even existed until google told me; man pages are sort of useless in a situation like that.

If someone's giving away free computers, of any sort, I'm in on principle - at least for initial testing. Without seeing the OS up close and personally, I can't say whether I'd use it for any extended period of time. Added to that, assuming that Chromium OS does indeed check out and I've found a use for a lightweight web-driven PC (and I do have a use in mind), I'm going to need a touchscreen with this.
