As somebody who works for a company involved in medical billing... yes, the industry is being run by a pack of trained monkies. Fortunately, my company is involved in reform and switching it all to being done electronically. With some luck, it'll get better over the next few years.

Researchers at F-Secure have spotted a new wave of exploits that use FTP — rather than a malicious URL, or an email attachment — to deliver their malware payloads because few gateways scan for FTP attachments these days."
