My issue with it isn't that they're using a processor, it's that this class of processor is likely overkill. So, either it's so readily available they have a warehouse full of them, or somebody wants to stir up shit. I'm guessing it's effectively the latter. It's more politically with it to raise the concern that it is to bother sourcing this component for production.

Basic image recognition sufficient for mapping navigation can be done in significantly lesser hardware.

Spotify doesn't charge for their app, they provide subscriptions, and have a large install base. Downloading a million apps when there is an update for instance isn't free for Apple.

I think they are very generous with the small developers. And the way to keep doing that is to have the successfully community pay its share of costs. We all benefit from it. (And it's Nicole and dimes for the big players)

Running out of fuel is not inherently a distress call, on calm seas with no immediate risk to life it is a call for aid. It would be escalated to a distress call if the situation changed, rough seas, drifting towards rocks, etc. would be valid for a distress call.

Is there an immediate risk to life and safety? No - call for aid.

Very early symptoms could discourage the job well before obvious symptoms and inability surface.

Sounds like they used JavaScript to limit the booking period, and accepted cancellations without validation.

This is much less a hack, and more like incompetence on the web app developers part.

If you think that none of that is a big deal you haven't worked in an actual restricted environment.

This will potentially require servers to be wiped and rebuilt in some environments. Even if everything is configured correctly and this update did not make it to restricted servers, they will likely have to be specifically audited to prove that to the powers that be.

Having an error message pop up on users machines also means dozens, to hundreds or thousands of calls to service desks to address the issue. Nothing like getting top executives to file a service ticket and having to reprioritize your day because of it over something as stupid as the, and yet that's what happens.

There are hundreds of millions in the table.

It's entirely possible for someone to pay someone to start fires, or, have someone reach out with "proof" they started one and ask for payment. Creating a process that encourages either action is only going to make things substantially worse.

And get substantially more attention if maintainers.

Deadly toxins, explosives, etc. the information for creating and using them is basic science. If you've been at University for more than 2 years and you can't: know where to find the info, have the skills to do it; you should hand in your degree, because you skipped out of way too many classes.
