The computer tunes the engine for you now. Tuning used to adjust the spark timing, and the ability to adjust timing was removed when ignition systems lost the distributor, rotor, and distributor cap.
The distributor cap used to be a wear item that all the spark plug wires plugged into. The rotor would spin inside it and physically wear it down over time. They were replaced with electronic coil packs that don't have mechanic wear. It's very similar to this example of no-code development.
