I may be in the minority here, but I'll put this out there anyway.
In 2007 I had the opportunity to go on a short term mission with Gateway Short-Term Mission Teams (http://www.nabconference.org/pages.asp?pageid=717). On that trip, our team installed wired and wireless data networks; Windows 2003 servers; taught medical classes; trained on technology; and provided vacation bible school activities for orphans.
It was, by far, the most fulfilling use of my talents and a much needed departure from the daily grind.
While giving money helps, it is not the same as using your talents to help improve situations and see people develop.
There are other organizations out there besides NAB/Gateway teams...LightSys Technical Services and mission volunteer websites are out there.
